18. Sister City Grove
A Japanese Black Pine (Pinus Thunbergiana) was planted on December 1, 2015, in commemoration of the 95th Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Hilo. Planted in Peace with The Rotary Club of Hiroshima South, this tree began the Sister City Grove. The tree was donated by Raymond Tanouye - Mountain Meadows Inc. Many more plantings followed. Sister City pine trees were allowed to grow and get established before pruning and training. Sister City pine trees received their first pruning and training in January 2021 once the trees were well established.
