Sponsored by Friends of Liliʻuokalani Gardens, the park is lit up for the holidays with displays throughout the gardens.
Banyan Drive Art Stroll
Plein air demonstrations in the gardens, gyotaku at Suisan, printmaking at The Ice House are just a few of the many activities in the planning for a return of the annual Banyan Drive Art Stroll (suspended during the pandemic).
Koi Nobori Display
Koinobori (fish windsocks) are flown to wish for health, perseverence, strength, and success in our children. The dates are based on Golden Week in Japan culminating with Children's Day on May 5.

2024 Walk to End Alzheimer's - Hawaii Island, HI raises funds to further the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. The Alzheimer's Association is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization.
He Hali'a Aloha No Lili'uokalani
On Saturday, September 7th, 2024 the Queen's birthday will be celebrated at Hilo's Liliʻuokalani Gardens Park from 10 AM to 3 PM. This event also commemorates the historical importance of Lili‘uokalani Gardens and features a variety of activities such as music, hula, art displays, artisanal crafts, culinary delights, live demonstrations, engaging children’s games, and culturally enriching experiences.

Brownies and Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts all have participated throughout the years in cleaning the park.

Thinning of the bamboo patch is an ongoing project since 2015. Saws and rakes are desired tools. Eye protection is a good idea. Anyone who is allergic to cut grass should not participate.
Genki Ball Make and Toss Afternoon
Essential microorganisms are mixed with sifted clay soil, mill run (wheat or rice bran), and molasses. The mixture is formed into balls and set aside to cure for a minimum of two weeks. When tossed into a pond, the balls dissolve and the microorganisms go to work eating sludge and toxins. Following a year-long test phase, the Genki Hou Waihonu project has expanded to treat the entire pond.

AARP Paletas in the Park
Beat the heat with a delicious frozen treat. AARP is excited to treat our members, veterans, and their two special guests to a complimentary fresh fruit paleta or small ice cream on Saturday, July 20. Connect with history and nature at 9:30 a.m. with a guided tour through Queen Lili`uokalani Gardens. Drop in for your free treats between 10 a.m. and noon. Bring your postcard or membership card to the AARP tent near The Ice House on Banyan Drive on Saturday 7/20.
A Salute to Our Veterans Hilo Bay 5K Run
4th of July "A Salute to Our Veterans" Hilo Bay 5K Run/Walk benefiting the Veterans of Foreign Wars 3830.
Ohana Stargazing
Enjoy star stories, keiki activities, and telescope viewing with the entire `ohana. Enter through the east torii under the big monkeypod tree and walk out onto the flat lawn. Red lights will illuminate a path to the event site.
Volunteer Day in the Gardens
Help maintain the gardens around Shoroan, the Urasenke tea house at Lili`uokalani Gardens off Banyan Drive. There is parking along the street and in a small parking lot. Do not park on sidewalks. Please wear closed tow shoes. Bring gloves if you have them and your favorite garden tool. Some gloves and tools will be available for use. Cold water and beverages will be available to volunteers.
